Nina M. Njus, MD (1953 - 2017)
Nina M. Njus, 63, passed away on May 19, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Cedar Falls Iowa, she graduated from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Nina, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, retired in 2015 after 29 years of practice. She was one of the founding partners of Crystal Clinic, Summit Hand Center and dedicated much of her time to educating the Summa Health Orthopaedic Surgery residents.
Nina always remembered "that there is an art to medicine as well as science" and lived her vow, daily, to "remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being" in her practice of medicine both in Akron Ohio and on her numerous medical mission trips to Haiti.
"If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help." She will be remembered with much affection and will live on through those that she healed, touched and taught.
She is survived by her daughters, Emily (Mike) and Kelsey (Jesse Serva); grandchildren, Brynn and Gavin Njus; brother, Edward Kennedy (Gretchen Langlitz); sisters, Claudia Kennedy (Frank Testa) and Jane Kennedy-Funk (David Funk); nephew, David Testa.
