Norbert A. Weisend Jr., "Norb", was born October 3, 1923 and died October 16, 2016.
Norb was born and raised in Akron by Norbert and Blanche (Clason) Weisend. He graduated from Akron North High School in 1941 and the University of Akron (Engineering) in 1949.
Norb married Edith "Edie" June Bausher on June 14, 1948 and had over 65 great years of marriage.
Norb's lifetime activities included: Being a co-pilot of a B24 bomber crew in World War II, Earning 2 letters playing football at the University of Akron, Joining the Chi Theta Tau fraternity (Pledge Master & President), Working 37 years at BF Goodrich in the design and development of aircraft ice protection systems (20+ patents), Being a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 166 in Cuyahoga Falls, Donating blood for the American Red Cross (Hall of Fame, 254 donations), Helping people complete income taxes in the AARP volunteer program (20 years), Volunteering at Open M and at the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, and Worshiping and being involved in activities, including ushering and serving as Council President, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron (1948-2016).
He was predeceased by Edie and his parents. He is survived by brother Dan (Shirley); daughter Carol Wessinger of New York, and her children Katie (Rich) and Julie (Mike); son Jeff of Nevada; son John (Beth) and his son Joey (Jessi); daughter Ellen Wolcott (Keith) of Illinois and their children Scott and Jane (Jose). Norb also leaves 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia at Sumner and especially Christina and Ryan who were present when Norb passed into the Lord's loving arms on Sunday morning. Also, thank you to caregivers Miranda and Vanessa for their devoted care the last few months.
There will be a calling hours Friday, November 11th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel on 85 N Miller Road, Akron. A memorial service will be conducted at Holy Trinity, 50 N Prospect, Akron 44304 on Saturday, November 12th at 11 a.m. with calling hours one hour prior. His ashes will be interred at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Garden.
