Norma A. Hartz (nee Warner) passed away August 16 2017 after living a long time with COPD and a short time with lung cancer.
Norma Ann Warner was born March 12, 1928 in Barberton, Ohio, to Margaret (Winkelman) and Howard Warner. She grew up the 6th of 8 children during the depression in Kenmore. There was hardship in Norma's early life; her father was hit and killed by a streetcar when Norma was only 9, her younger sister Patricia (Aunt Pat) was crippled by polio as an infant, and her brother Howard died on the USS Franklin in World War II.
Norma graduated from Kenmore High School in 1946. After high school she worked in the payroll department for the Goodrich Company. She met and married Ervine William (Bill) Hartz and raised four daughters. After the early death of her husband and with young daughters still at home, Norma returned to work in accounting with Trust Management, and ultimately retired at 70 from Norstan Communications.
Norma was a devoted mother to her daughters. While they were young she travelled with them to parades all over Ohio with baton and drum corps Royal Ju-Dells and Royal Paraders. The deep family friendships created there have endured to this day.
She cultivated lasting relationships with many dear friends, neighbors, and co-workers. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, watching and feeding birds, and was a good bowler and golfer as a young woman. She taught her grandchildren an appreciation for Jeopardy! Norma was a member of St. Sebastian's parish for over 50 years. She served as treasurer for the St. Sebastian Little Flower Garden club, and was an active member of Summa's Pulmonary Club.
Norma is survived by her four daughters, Karen (Rick) Semer of Granville Ohio, Kelly (Chandra Rudolph) of Copley, Kathryn of Wadsworth, Kristine of Akron, four grandchildren Katelyn Semer, Brett McDermitt, Samantha Hartz-Rudolph, and Brooke McDermitt, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers Delores, Bernard, Leo, Howard, Monica, Patricia and Gene.
The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by the Summa Palliative Care Staff during her final days, and the support of the Pulmonary Rehab and Pulmonary Club during her long illness. Memorials may be made to the St. Sebastian Parish Foundation or Little Flower Garden Club, or charity of choice.
