Norma McMellon Shaw, 85, passed away on February 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ona Fife; sister, Betty; brother, Robert; son, Thomas Edward; and husband, H. T. "Mac" McMellon.
She is survived by husband, Dr. Bruce Shaw; sister Rosalie Wilson; daughters, Jennifer Hissem (Jerry), Susan B. Spurlock, Jacqui Davis and her children, Jeremy (Emily), Jordan and Spencer; step children, Doug, Sally, Nancy, Susan, Amy, Cathy and their children.
Norma was married at age seventeen, and was a buyer for the Anderson-Newcomb department store in Huntington, WV. They made their first home in St. Albans, WV, then relocated the family to Akron, OH in 1968. When the children reached high school age, Norma became a licensed manicurist and eventually purchased her own salon, The House of Sparrow. Fashion was her first love and when retail space became available, she opened McMellon and Wife, a fine women's clothier. After her "Mac" passed away, she returned to being a manicurist and cared for her three grandchildren.
On January 1, 1994, she married Dr. Bruce Shaw and retired to Savanna, GA. They enjoyed a life of travel, golf, social engagements and clubs.
She was blessed with a beautiful voice and was very active in several church choirs throughout her life and also sang for special events.
The service will be held at 12 Noon on SATURDAY March 4, 2017 at Christ Woodland United Methodist Church 444 N. Hawkins Ave. Akron, OH 44313 with Rev. Debbie Gibbons officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Ohio Living Rockynol, Christ Woodland United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
