Norman Roy Barton

Norman Roy Barton, 74, passed away May 4, 2017 into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.

Born on September 3, 1942 in Akron, the son of Yorke (nee Hargis) and F.W. Barton, he moved to New Jersey at the age of four and graduated from Long Branch High, Long Branch, NJ. He has been a resident of Copley for the last 55 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, Norm worked for the Ford Motor Co. before being hired by Underwriters Adjusting Co. as an insurance adjuster in 1966. In 1970, he went to work for Westfield Insurance Co. as a property adjuster. In 1975, Norm and his wife, Harriet, started Barton Adjusting Service which later became Northeast Adjusting Service, Inc. During his long career, he was a member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters, was a founding member of the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators and served as their treasurer (1982-1987) and their president (1991-1992). He was also a member of the Ohio Association of Independent Adjusters and their president (1981-1982) and was a member of Akron Claims Association for over forty years.

He was a member of The Chapel since 1981; came to Christ there and was baptized. He has been an usher, deacon, and formed the Chapel's Membership Commission along with his wife Harriet and held that service position for 15 years.

He leaves his beautiful, faithful and prudent wife, Harriet after 45 years of marriage that survived many difficult times as the world has its ways; children, David, Tim, Kim, Gary and Diana; brothers, Bill and Bruce Barton; father-in-law, Earl Simmons.

Services will be held 11 a.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Steve Neumeyer officiating. Interment with Military honors in Copley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home FRIDAY from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 330-867-4141)
