Norris Eugene Smith, age 79, of Bath passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
Born August 14, 1934 in Newton, Kansas, he was the son of Emmett E. and Flossie L. (Pletcher) Smith.
Norris graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1952; he earned a Civil Engineering degree from Kansas State University in 1957; while there, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha.
He was recruited by Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron and upon graduation and began his training with them in 1957; that year he joined the American Society of Civil Engineers. He transferred to Goodyear Aerospace in 1958 to work on Ballistic Missile Early Warning Systems antennas. He completed his Master's degree at Akron University in 1968. He had special engineering assignments with Goodyear Arizona as well as McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis. He transferred to Goodyear Wheel and Brake in 1970, and retired from Aircraft Braking Systems after 37 years of continuous service.
Norris was a kind, considerate, generous, and devoted husband to Alice M. (Shanazar) Smith for 54 years, he gave her roses for every birthday and anniversary; she describes him as an "Aqua-Velva" man. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 11:00AM at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Inurnment will take place at the Glendale Cemetery. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel 330-867-4141)
