Paige Allison Myers, of Copley, passed away suddenly at age 22 on August 29, 2017 in her apartment near Case Western Reserve University, where she had recently returned to begin her graduate studies in Public Health after graduating in May with a BS in Biology. Paige's career goal was to work for a rare disease advocacy organization. She was a remarkable young woman who earlier in her life had been diagnosed with a rare autosomal recessive inherited disease known as Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), which causes progressive damage to the peripheral nervous system. It can also lead to cardiomyopathy and diabetes but does not impair cognitive ability.
Paige was truly brilliant, and she had a passion for learning. She lived her life to the fullest right up to her last moments, never allowing her physical limitations to get in the way of achieving her dreams. She was more than accomplished in her studies at Case Western Reserve University. She was a loving and much-loved daughter, sister and friend, and a fierce advocate for others with disabilities, and for access to healthcare for all people. Paige was a FARA Ambassador, speaking eloquently and forcefully on behalf of everyone suffering from FA. Take a moment to celebrate the life of this beautiful young woman.
Paige is preceded in death by grandparents Elisabeth Schulz and Larry Myers. She is survived by her loving parents, Anne and Chris Myers; brother, Jared; grandparents, George Schulz and Heidi Myers; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Paige loved her cat, Bee, and her dogs, Zoe and Chance.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Paige's honor to help defeat FA as soon as possible. Contact FARA at
