Paul Douglas Chicatelli MD, 79 passed away October 23, 2021 in Akron, Ohio.
Paul was born in Conneaut, OH on November 5, 1941, the only son to Nick and Angeline (DeMarco) Chicatelli. Paul graduated from Conneaut High School in 1959. After obtaining an undergraduate degree from Gannon University in Erie Pennsylvania, Paul attended medical school at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, IL graduating in 1967. He proudly served his country as a Captain and Battalion Surgeon in the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. During his time of service, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He returned home to a fellowship appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the new field of Interventional Radiology. He practiced in Interventional Radiology and Special Procedures for more than 30 years at Akron General Medical Center where Dr. Chic was a staple of clinical care.
All who knew him, will never forget his passion for medicine, his wit, charm, and compassionate spirit. Paul loved being a radiologist and using the tools of his specialty. He prided himself on being a true advocate for his patients and will always be remembered for his brightly colored scrubs and bold designed sweaters which he felt would ease his patients during difficult times.
Paul lived a great life and lived it with enthusiasm. He was an avid sportsman, a passionate car enthusiast and a car racer. He not only loved caring for his cars but the feeling of driving them to their limits. When not spending time with his family, racing cars, or walking his beloved dogs, he spent the early hours of the morning floating on the Ohio rivers with his dearest friend Engel Groenberg. Engel, his true brother, shared the love of nature and the excitement of duck hunting.
Paul is survived by wife of 59 years Sherrie, loving sons Stephen (Amy), Jeffrey (Ashley) and David. He cherished the curiosity and unconditional love of his three granddaughters Teresa, Christina and Audrey.
It is with deep sadness that we will not be able to comfort one another due to the continued COVID pandemic. No public services will be held at this time. We intend to celebrate Paul’s life at a future time with a funeral and private burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
