Paul Wharton Vaughn, 87, died December 11, 2009.
Paul bought his father's market, Vaughn's Temple Square Market after returning from serving four years in the Navy. He joined his brother Ralph in 1962 to open a large state of the art supermarket, The Country Counter in Brecksville. He received the Retail of the Year Award and the Honor Award in the greater Cleveland area for his outstanding achievements. Paul was a member of Mt. Akra Lodge #680 F&AM, the Ohio Retail Food Dealers and the Food Market Institute for many years. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed basketball, golf and swimming at the Y in the Falls. Two of his greatest loves were traveling with Ethel, whom he married January 4, 1953 and gardening.
Preceded in death by wife, Ethel; brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Ralph; nephews, Richard and Larry; he is survived by nephews, David, Bruce, Brian and Kim; and niece, Judy Battig. He will also be missed by many close friends who loved him dearly.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., where friends may call one hour before services. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa, P.O. Box 2090, Akron 44398.
