Paul E. Weimer, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14.
Devoted father, grandfather, community leader and attorney, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Wells Weimer. He is survived by sons, David Tonya, William Margaret, Mark Jeannine Weimer and daughter, Rebecca Ken Kline. Paul and Thelma had nine grandchildren: Jared Melissa, Paul LaRissa, Ryan, Will, Lauren, Kyle, Jenna, Caroline and Alexa; and six great-grandchildren, Marah, Avery, Brooke, Eliza, Mark and Ruth.
A lifelong resident of Summit County, Paul graduated from Garfield High School, the College of Wooster and the Ohio State University Law School. During World War II, Paul's service as a U.S. Navy lieutenant in the Pacific arena earned him three Battle Stars. He also served in Shanghai China in 1945-46.
Paul began practicing law in 1949 and continued to serve clients well past his formal retirement in 2000. In 2008, he was selected for the Sir Thomas More Award by the Akron Bar Association and the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland in recognition of his personal integrity, professional excellence and community service. A lifelong member of the Akron Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association and American Bar Association, Paul also served on two Ohio Supreme Court commissions. A mentor to many and an active community volunteer, Paul served as board president of the Akron Metropolitan YMCA, Goodwill Industries of Akron and the Firestone Park Community Council. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Paul enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge and fishing. His two favorite places were North Bay, Ontario and the Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Clyde, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist of Cuyahoga Falls, with Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
