Paula Vehlow (Evans) , 80, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away on January 26, 2024.

Paula was born on August 2, 1943, in Creston, Iowa. Throughout much of her early years Paula’s family moved throughout Iowa and later settled in St. Joseph, Missouri where she graduated from Central High School. She then went to complete her undergrad degree at Marysville College and then completed her master’s degree at the University of Kansas.  While at college she was introduced to her husband Charles Vehlow by her parents. They married upon her graduation. They adopted their daughters Gretchen and later Heidi thus completing their family. Paula ascended to the role of Asst. English Department Chair at Missouri Western State University. An active church member, she and Charles lead their church’s youth group for a few years. Paula also volunteered numerous hours at Vacation Bible School.
Moving from St. Joseph, Missouri to southern Missouri where she taught at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). It was during this time Paula taught English as a Second Language to a group of Japanese students. Soon she and her husband opened their home to students spending many weekends with the Vehlow family. The students loved to come and prepare food they missed from home. She and her family attended Good Shephard Lutheran Church and continued to be an active and contributing member of the congregation.
After a few years they moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where Paula taught at both Kent State and University of Akron. She continued to teach until her retirement. An active member at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, Paula was the Director of Vacation Bible School for a few years.  She loved being outdoors and gardening until her health prevented her from continuing. Paula was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.

Paula is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Alberta Evans; husband Charles Vehlow; and uncles Larry Maggard and Perry Maggard. She leaves behind her beloved sisters Priscilla Jackson (Art) and Pamela Evans; daughters Heidi Vehlow and Gretchen Vehlow; grandson Charles M.G. Vehlow; along with a loving extended family.

Her family would like to thank the nurses of Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice for their support and care of not only Paula but the entire family.
