Pauline Nichols Economou

August 15, 1912 — August 5, 2008

Pauline Nichols Economou
Pauline Nichols Economou, 95, passed from here to Heaven on August 5, 2008.

Pauline was a lady in the finest sense of the word. She was born ahead of her time. A professional woman before it was fashionable, her mind was first rate. She always had time for her family and her beloved garden. Friends will be reminded of her each time they see a flower in bloom. Many a sorry plant received tender care from her and would return to its owner resplendent once more. She delighted in pointing out to visitors plants she had brought with her from her childhood home in Lynn, Mass., as well as plants and cuttings she had received from others. Even at 95, she had friends much younger than she. They surrounded her as ivy around the trunk of a strong tree, grateful for her sheltering wisdom, her warmth and perspective. She will be truly missed.

She was a life member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and its Melissa Society. She was past district governor of Daughters of Penelope, and a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Akron Woman's City Club, Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Rose Society.

Preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Economou; she was the beloved sister of the late Nicholas Nicholaides Helen, Christine Simpson Dave and the late Emmanuel Nichols; aunt of Paula Kappos Alex, Stas Nicholaides Jennifer, Larry Nicholaides Rita, Beth and Sandy Simpson, and the late David Simpson; great-aunt of Maria Kehres Bob, Chris Kappos, Kindra and Michael Nicholaides Anna, Jason and Leam Nicholaides; great-great- aunt of Jack and Ryan Kehres.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where the Trisagios service will take place at 8:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron 44304.
