Pete George

Pete George was born on December 8, 1932, in Akron, Ohio to parents Nick and Annie (Theodos) George as the youngest of nine children and the last to pass away. He died on October 10, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Justin Rogers Hospice Care Center.

Pete graduated from Central High School and the University of Akron where he prepared to become an educator. He taught English to many high school students throughout his over 30-year career in the Akron Public School system. He will be dearly missed by his son, Peter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith.

Pete served in the United States Navy with distinction during the Korean War. He loved animals, especially cats, and throughout his life Pete fed and cared for countless strays. He enjoyed playing games, including family and friend poker nights, Scrabble, ping pong, Jeopardy and more. Throughout the years he took much delight in beating his nieces and nephews in all of these games. Questions about Humphrey Bogart or Frank Sinatra or sports trivia queries could always be answered by Uncle Pete!

Funeral Services will be held SATURDAY, October 14, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron 44333. If you wish, you may pay your respects to the family prior to the service from 11AM to 12PM. Internment at Mount Peace Cemetery will follow the service. A luncheon celebration of Pete's life will be at Beau's Grille in the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn, 3180 West Market Street, 44333 following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to One of A Kind Pet Rescue, 1929 West Market Street, Akron, OH 44313, Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospice, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333 or a charity of your choice that benefits animals.
