Philomena G. Olivo
Philomena G. Olivo (nee Chriss) aged 97 of the Village at St. Edward's Nursing Care, formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, died April 3, 2017.
Born May 13, 1919 in Painesville, Ohio, she was a graduate of Spencerian College. Philomena was a private secretary at the former Pure Calcium Company in Painesville. She met her husband, Anthony, in 1940 at the marriage of her cousin Fanny to Anthony's brother, Frank. Anthony and Philomena were married August 31, 1946 in Akron, Ohio. Philomena loved family get-togethers. Christmas time, in particular, was important as she baked and decorated many cookies. Philomena was an active member and past president of Saint Monica Society at St. Anthony Church, helping in various fundraisers such as the church spaghetti dinner.
Philomena is preceded in death by Anthony, her husband of 66 years; father, Nicholas Chriss; mother, Josephine D'Ianni Chriss; sister, Mary Hausch; brother, Nicholas Chriss; and grandson, James Olivo. Philomena is survived by two children, David Olivo of Akron and Dr. Mary Jo Fresch (Hank) of Dublin, Ohio, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her "DIL" Jodie Oates.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. Edward's and Harbor Light Hospice for their loving care of Philomena.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on FRIDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron 44310. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Rd., Akron 44319. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Foundation at St. Edward, 3131 Smith Rd., Fairlawn, 44333. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
