Phyllis Prentice Bortscheller (nee Crile) was born in Bath November 27, 1928 to Helen and Ford Crile, lived in the area most of her life, and died March 23, 2014.
Phyllis led an extremely full life. A graduate of the old Bath High School, she attended Wittenberg University and the University of Akron and participated in LIFE as a school teacher, solo and choir vocalist, piano teacher, pianist, director of women's choruses, interior decorator and author. As an activist, she picketed, was co-chair of County Court
Watch and lectured for children's rights. A lover of the written word, she read voraciously and wrote with intensity. Great joy came from her four children, grandkids, many diverse friends, ballroom dancing with Al, and gardening.
Preceded in death by husbands, Kenneth "Ted" Prentice and Alfred "Al" Bortscheller; she is survived by her four children, Jeff Prentice (Jan), Sally Prentice, Susan Prentice and Tim Prentice (Patty); grandchildren, Trevor and Taylor Prentice, Jared Lees and Corey Reckner (Patty's son); and great-grandson, Ezra.
