Poi Shen

September 5, 1944 — December 19, 2016

Poi Shen, nee Yang, 72, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 after a hard-fought battle against cancer. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dr. Edward Kuo-Shein Shen. She is survived by three daughters, Victoria, Elizabeth, and Debby; six grandchildren, Alexander, William, Ethan, Sara, Edison, and Angelina; her brothers, Po-Chung, Po-Chie, and Po-Cheng; and her mother Ya-Ping Mi.
She was born in 1944 in China's Sichuan province to Wen-Ta Yang and Ya-Ping Mi, and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. She completed a law degree from National Taiwan University. Poi immigrated to the U.S. in 1966, where she met her husband. While raising three daughters, she attended the University of Akron completing a B.S. in computer science. During her 25 year career at Roadway Express, she specialized in information systems. As a crowning achievement, Poi was awarded a patent for predictive bill entry.
She enjoyed travelling the world, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, December 28 at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, with Chaplain Marilyn Mihalic, OP officiating. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
