Raymond J Pikna

Raymond J. Pikna, born August 14, 1927 in Chicago Heights, Ill., died January 2, 2012.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he earned a Bachelor of Science 1949 and Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois where his name is inscribed on the Bronze Tablet. He also received a Master's Degree in Nuclear Science from Carnegie Mellon University 1957. He worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 42 years, six of which he spent in France where he was manager of the synthetic rubber plant in Port Jerome, France. Upon returning to the United States, he was assigned as plant manager for Firestone in Pottstown, PA. He returned to Akron as division manager in 1970 and continued in that position until his retirement. Ray enjoyed golf, bowling and card games with his friends.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen and Rudolph. He is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Peggy J. Pikna; sister, Josephine Seaman; son, Raymond J. Pikna, Jr. Christine; granddaughters, Caitlin and Shannon; three great-grandchildren, Audrianne, Genevieve and Matthew; and other family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. FRIDAY at St. Hilary Catholic Church. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., THURSDAY from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Hilary Foundation, 2750 W. Market St., Akron 44313, to the Salvation Army, 190 S. Maple St., Akron 44302-1603, or to a charity of one's choice .
