The Rev. Dr. H. Richard Bucey The Rev. Dr. H. Richard Bucey, 80, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away September 7, 2011. Born September 14, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, Dick was the son of Wiley A. and Mary C. Bucey, and the husband of Norma Vlasak Bucey, with whom he was in love for every day of their 56-year marriage. He graduated from West High School in Akron, and received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, his divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, and his doctorate in ministry from Lancaster Theological Seminary. Dick was ordained into the Christian ministry in 1954, and ministered to thousands throughout a 50-year ministry at Trinity United Church of Christ, Cleveland; Avon Lake United Church of Christ; Seabreeze United Church of Christ, Daytona Beach, Florida; Naples United Church of Christ, Florida; Old Stone Church, Cleveland; and Hudson First Congregational Church. Dick will be missed dearly by Norma and their children and spouses: David Anne, Scott Jennifer, and Andrea Thomas Tikkanen; by grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Richard, Henry, Caroline, Benjamin and Elizabeth; by his brother and sister-in-law, Randolph and Ann Bucey; and by his sister-in-law, Nancy Bucey, wife of his deceased brother, Wiley A. Bucey, Jr. Dick was a mentor to young people, many of whom followed him into the ministry; a counselor to many in times of trouble; and an inspiring preacher who never flinched from the responsibility of relating the gospel of love to the difficult issues of our times: racial justice, war, poverty, world hunger, and the liberation of oppressed people across the world. Visitation with the family will be held at First Congregational Church, 47 Aurora Street, Hudson, on Tuesday, September 13 from 7 to 9 p.m., and a memorial service held at the same location on Wednesday, September 14, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Bucey Chapel Fund at the Akron YMCA, First Congregational Church of Hudson, or Seidman Cancer Center of University Hospitals.
