Richard Alan Day, 53
Born November 30, 1964
Dies April 22, 2018
Richard Alan Day, 53, beloved husband, brother, and friend went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, April 22, 2018. He is survived by his wife Rachel W. Day, sister Jennifer Day and father Richard Day as well as many friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his mother Charlotte (Burrucker) Day.
Richard was born Nov. 30, 1964 in New York City and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated Cum Laude from Northgate H.S. and was a star athlete on the Northgate Flames Varsity football team. He loved the game of football and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Richard was nothing short of extraordinary. He graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1986 and served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot and proudly served his country in Operation Desert Storm. He was honored with many Army medals to include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army at the rank of Captain.
Richard went on to get his MBA and work on Wall Street for AIG and Reader's Digest before relocating to Ohio with his wife to continue his career in finance. He was an active member of Church in the Valley and the West Point Alumni Association. He was brilliant, sophisticated, kind, and loyal beyond measure. He had recently fought his toughest battle against Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a cancer that required a bone marrow transplant. He will be loved and cherished as his passing is immeasurably painful for all who knew him. He was a hero and will be missed more than words can ever express.
A service of remembrance with military honors will be held for Richard on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 AM at Church in the Valley, 2241 Everett Rd. Peninsula, OH 44264. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all donations be made to Whitehawk Ranch, Inc., P.O. Box 4035, Copley, Ohio 44321. Whitehawk Ranch is a nonprofit organization that Rich and his wife Rachel started in 2003 to help at-risk teen girls. The ranch has been the life mission of Rich and Rachel. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
