Richard William Eckart died of complications from COVID on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Akron City Hospital at the age of 87. He was born in 1934 in Copley Ohio, the son of Clyde and Mary Eckart. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his oldest daughter Karen, his middle daughter Jill (Whitten) and her husband Dave and grandsons Daniel (Allie) and Michael (Autumn) and great-granddaughter Elizabeth, and his youngest daughter Linda (Robinson) and her husband Bob and grandsons Trey and Joel and granddaughter Kaira.
Richard graduated from Copley High School (Class of 1952) and from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He married Carolyn Eckart in 1959 and the two of them recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Richard worked for Goodyear and Mohawk Tire in Akron before launching his own retread rubber company, Production Systems, Inc. He sold his company and retired at age 60 and spent many years wintering with Carolyn in Florida before returning full-time to Ohio a few years ago.
Richard trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior and his family is comforted and strengthened by the knowledge that he is with Jesus in heaven and that they will see him again. Richard served as a Deacon and Trustee at The Chapel in Akron and was on the Board of Directors for the Haven of Rest.
Richard loved his family, modeling our heavenly Father’s love through his compassion, kindness, and protection. Richard enjoyed photography and collected model John Deere tractors, stamps, coins, and shells. He spent many hours tending his flowers and enjoying his cat Zorro. He was a generous contributor to many charities and a kind benefactor to individuals in need. He was known for truly loving people and for his nearly endless supply of clean jokes.
