Richard John Hearty, Sr.
Richard John Hearty, Sr. "Dick", 89, died May 20, 2009.
Born in Akron, April 17, 1920, he was a graduate of Newman Preparatory School in New Jersey and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dick loved his Catholic Faith, his family, golf and travel. He served in World War II, South America and Africa, in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant and an Air Commander in Lighter than Air. He was a member of Portage Country Club, where he was golf champion six times, the first in 1956 and the last in 1969. To this day he holds the amateur score of 64 at P.C.C. He was a former member of Pine Valley, Clementon, N.J., Sharon Golf Club, Ohio and Mountain Lake, Lake Wales, Florida. Dick was President, C.E.O. and Chairman of the Board of the company his father, John Hearty, founded in 1908, The Imperial Electric Company, from 1956 until the company sold in 1983.
Preceded in death by mother, Edna M. Hearty; father, John Hearty; brother, George Hearty; sister, Mary Ann Myers and husband, Charles B. Myers; sons, Hugh G. Hearty and William Riordan Hearty; and grandson, Matthew B. Roberts; he is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Riordan Hearty "Betty"; children, Kathleen H. Roberts David, Richard J. Jr. Becky, Owen Brion Laura, Edward M. Jayne, Stacey Anne Hearty; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Hearty family thanks Cathy, Cindy, Mona and Charlotte for helping our mother in caring for our father as his health declined.

Mass of the Christian Burial will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 750 S. Main St., with Rev. Father Edward Burba celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., 4 to 6 p.m. Friday. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron 44333 or your favorite charity.
