His family is greatly saddened to announce the death of Richard E. Lindenberger. Dick died on March 7, 2014 at the age of 92. He was hoping to celebrate his 100th birthday at a party organized by his daughter in law, Margaret.
Mr. Lindenberger was preceded in death by Vivian, his wife of over 63 years; his parents, Edward and Mary Lindenberger; his sister, Violet (Stever); and his brother, Edward.
Dick was born in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania and came of age in the heart of the Great Depression and joined the military in 1939. He served in the United States Army until 1945, notably landing at Utah Beach and serving with the Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge. He obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Juniata College in Huntington, Pennsylvania and was employed by Standard Steel Company of Burnham Pennsylvania for 36 years, as a sales representative and marketing manager. His work brought him to Northeast Ohio where he raised his family in Cuyahoga Falls.
He was active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, all of whom treasured his companionship and counsel, and will continue to do so over time.
Dick is survived by his sons, Richard (Tonie) Lindenberger of Canton, Michigan and Jeffrey (Margaret) of Bath, Ohio; grandchildren, Meghan Lindenberger of Hinckley, Ohio and Daniel Lindenberger of New York City. He is also survived by his sisters, Irene(Guy) McCardle of Burnham, Pa., Drusilla Mumper of Burnham, Pa., Mildred(William) Kline of Midland, Michigan and Mary Smith of Lewistown, Pa., as well as his brother, Robert in Florida.
Dick attended the Church of the Brethren in his youth and was a long time member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In the final years of his life, he found a cherished home at St. Hilary Church in Fairlawn, Ohio, where the welcome extended by his fellow parishioners matched his own welcoming spirit. That spirit and interest in others is also remembered by the Staff and fellow residents of Chambrel in Copley. His family wants all to know of the extraordinary support and care he received from the staff at Chambrel, especially Gina Pawlak and numerous others who all the family wishes could be listed in this note. He enjoyed role as "Ambassador" and was known by all as a source of friendship and support.
His family also wishes to express gratitude for the efforts and support of Hospice of Summa, especially Kim Adkins, R.N., whose extraordinary work and caring eased his final moments.
