Richard H Marsh

Richard H. Marsh, 65, of Bath Township, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on March 24th, 2016.

Born February 26, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Ralph and Helen Marsh, Rich grew up in Toledo and later Solon, Ohio. He earned his undergraduate degree from Kent State University, and went on to receive his Master's in Clinical Psychology and his M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Akron. Rich began his career at Ohio Edison as a Financial Analyst in 1980. Thanks to his hard work and determination, he quickly rose through the ranks, and became the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of FirstEnergy in 1998 and was instrumental in the mergers that formed FirstEnergy. After retiring in 2009, he went on to enjoy life to the fullest, delighting in every opportunity he had to spend time with his family and friends.

Rich's devotion to the local community was unparalleled. In 2011, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Kent State University. He was also a long-standing member of the Summa Health Systems Board of Directors and served as President for three years. Rich served on the Board of the Sisler-McFawn foundation for many years. He was the Chair of the Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and the Chair of the Catholic Community Foundation. He was also involved with numerous other groups and foundations, including United Way, United Disability Services, and Greenleaf Family Center.

Rich was the beloved husband of Joan (Newmarker) Marsh, and loving father to Elizabeth (David Lerner) and Kathleen Marsh. He was also the cherished brother of Nancy (Richard) Haefner and Barbara Schuette, and devoted brother-in-law of David Newmarker and Judy (Andrew) Winnegar. He was a treasured uncle to all of his nieces and nephews, and a friend to everyone that he met.

Calling hours will be held at St. Victor Parish, 3435 Everett Road, Richfield, Ohio, on Thursday, March 31st, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Victor Parish on Friday, April 1st, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Community Foundation, 1404 East Ninth Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44114, Kent State University Foundation, P.O.
