Richard P. “Dick” Starts, born February 24, 1938, passed away at home June 24, 2019 from Myelofibrosis.
Dick was a charter member of the Tiretown Corvette Club and was also a member of the National Corvette Restorer’s Society and the National Council of Corvette Clubs. He loved everything Corvette – autocross, drags, speed events, car shows and restorations.., especially his 1957 Vette.
He loved kicking tires with his buddies. He was happy mowing on his John Deere and touring the yard in his golf cart. He never met a plate of spaghetti, a ballpark frank or a Busch-lite he didn’t like. Dick had retired from the Goodyear Aerospace/Lockheed Martin Corporation.
Preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Verna Starts; grandparents, John and Tatiana Starts and Ezra and Katie Kauffman; and step-daughter, Elaine Thompson; he is survived by his wife, Mary June Starts; sister, Norma Starts; step-sons, Brian Thompson (Cindy) and Dan Thompson (Holly); grandchildren, Alex and Madeline Hayes, Kelly Thompson, Ben, Owen and Anna Thompson; cousins, Jan Cook (Brad), Sylvia Wince, (Bevington), Ron DeHaas (Jeanne), Marlene DeHaas, Wayne Johnson (Debbie) and the “Kaufman cousins.”
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. THURSDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., where a service celebrating his life will be held 10:30 a.m. FRIDAY, Rev. Fr. James Singler officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family requests donations in his name to MPN Research Foundation, 180 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1870, Chicago, IL 60601.
