Richard Murray Stewart
Richard Murray Stewart died peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009 after a long illness.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann and loving family, daughter Carnen Stewart Girves; son and daughter in law, Ken and Lori Stewart; granddaughters, Lindsey, Hailey and Carley Stewart; grandsons Parry and Justin Girves; great grandson,
Gus; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jean and Eddy Chase; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Hamilton; nieces and nephews; step children, Rita Carsey, Lisa and John Leland; many good friends and special dog, Murray. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Stewart.
Richard earned a bachelor's degree from Kent State University and a doctorate of law
degree from University of Cincinnati. He was a member of the American Trial Lawyers
Association, the American Bar Association, the Akron Bar Association and was a
respected trial attorney for 49 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the
Sertoma Club. He served on the original board of Rockynol Retirement Community and founded Fairlawn Swim and Tennis Club in Fairlawn Heights.
Richard was proud to have served his country in World War II where he was a tail gunner
on board a B-17 bomber. He will be remembered for his strong love of nature and his passion for all animals, wild and otherwise. Richard's unique sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Private services to be held in the Historic Chapel at Bath Church, United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Greater Akron, 4904 Quick Rd. Peninsula, Ohio 44264. Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel
