"I love you more every day," were among Richard Lee Wilson's last words to his beloved wife of 54 years, Jackie. Dick, 78, passed away at home on October 18, 2016, after a courageous struggle with cancer and other complications. His loving family was at his bedside, and to the very end he and Jackie looked in each other's eyes and exchanged their signature line, "I got you babe."
Born April 29, 1938, in Parsons, West Virginia to Fred and Helen Wilson, Dick was a 1956 graduate of East High School, where he was on the wrestling team and played trumpet in the marching band. A Bronze Palm Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, he served in the United States Army, Active Duty 1957-1959, 9th Infantry Division. A loyal member of St. George Orthodox Church, Dick could always be counted on to support all the activities.
A graduate of Akron Barber College, Dick rose to the rank of Master Barber. His talent, as well as his unbelievable sense of humor, brought him a long list of loyal clients. During his life, he also worked at Goodyear Tire, serviced oil wells with great skill and finally with his "buddies" at Acme in Montrose. Dick easily qualified as a "Jack of all Trades" and he was a master of most, and a true perfectionist. He loved his Cleveland Indians, collecting a vast array of team memorabilia and rarely missing a game.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Jacqueline (nee Elias) whom he married in 1962; children, Glenn (Sheila) and Fred (Missy) Wilson; grandchildren, Lindsay, Courtney, Richard, Bailey, and Jacob Wilson. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Mollahan, Freddie (Henry) Slunt, and Bonnie (Bill) Goforth.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Wilson; sister, Joy Bromwell and her husband, Brad; and his brother-in-law, Albert Mollahan.
The family gratefully thanks the fabulous nurses and aides on 7 East Summa Hospital, Dr. Steven Radwany, Dr. Danielle Ingram and the other Summa Hospice/Palliative Care doctors and nurses.
