Robert Bensinger, 87, of Akron died on July 22, 2021. He was preceded by his parents Lucien (Ben) and Ruth Bensinger, his brother Rodger (Bud) and infant son Charles. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Valerie, their daughter Valerie Klein (Tyler) and granddaughters Kate and Sophia. He is also survived by his children Kathryn, Carolyn Redinger and Robert Jr., their children and grandchildren and his nieces and nephews Sheila Peña, Tom, Julie, Kenny and Ron and their families.
Bob graduated from Copley High School in 1952 and The Ohio State University in 1956. He worked as a lab technician in several hospitals and as a high school science teacher prior to running his own insurance agency for over 25 years.
Bob was an avid gardener and conservationist. While he nurtured the flora and fauna in his backyard including the birds, squirrels, racoons, skunk and deer, he was also an active hunter and fisherman. He started the Akron chapter of Safari Club International and had over 70 awards and over 140 ranked animals from around the world, including North America, South America, Africa and Asia.
Bob valued integrity, honesty and the Truth, and was an avid and opinionated storyteller. He enjoyed maintaining his friendships around the world and quietly supported those in need whenever he saw the opportunity.
The family will hold calling hours from 5-8 PM on Monday, July 26th and celebrate a Christian service at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 27th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333 followed by burial at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Safari Club International Foundation Youth Pathfinder Awards program or the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute for Ophthalmology Research.
