Robert Edmund Benson, 91, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014.
Born January 23, 1923, he was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at Miami University of Ohio; founder of the chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity at Kent State and Youngstown State Universities; and a member of the Order of Constantine and National Officer through Sigma Chi. Bob was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was a church school teacher and sang in the choir for 25 years; a Boy Scout Leader; a founding member and President of the West Akron Kiwanis; a 65 year member of the Fairlawn Country Club; and was President of Akron General Insurance Agency.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Patricia; son Bret T. (Suzanne and family) Benson; daughter, Heather R. Benson; grandchildren, Katie A. and Grace T. Benson; brother, Bruce (Jane) Benson; and longtime friend, Robert M. Quade.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., with Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. There are no calling hours.
