Robert Lee Edeburn of Copley, Ohio (formerly of Hermitage, PA) passed away April 6, 2023. He was 89.
Bob was born in Mercer to Joseph and Hazel Edeburn. After the death of his mother when he was three, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, James and Mabel Campbell.
Bob graduated from Hickory High School in 1951 and served for six years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.
He married Helen Lee McCullough in 1961. They were married for 59 years.
Bob graduated from Youngstown State University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and passed the CPA exam shortly thereafter. During and after college, he worked at the accounting firm Bell & Company where he became a partner. That firm later merged with McGill & Power to become McGill, Power, Bell & Company where Bob spent the remainder of his career.
Family, faith, and community were most important to Bob. To his family, Bob was a man of integrity – trustworthy, kind, honest, unassuming, and reliable. If his family needed him, without question, he was there for them. He gave back to the community as a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club, as a founding member of the Sharon location of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), and as a member of the board of directors for several nonprofit organizations. In retirement, Bob served as the director of Episcopal Community Services volunteering countless hours and his business expertise to ensure this community food distribution ministry ran smoothly. Bob was also a man of strong faith and an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He served as a Eucharistic lay minister and lay reader. He shared his business expertise by serving on the vestry, as senior warden, and chairing the finance committee. He was a trusted advisor to many.
A talented woodworker with an eye for detail, Bob could often be found in his home workshop. He created beautiful pieces of furniture that are treasured by his children, grandchildren, and church.
Bob is survived by, and deeply missed by, daughters Laura Jackson (Jeff) and Tessa Schmidt (Tom) as well as grandchildren Jeffrey, Thomas, Camden, and Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt and uncle, his wife, sister Harriet, and brothers Ray, Glenn, and Oscar.
We’d like to extend much thanks and gratitude to the entire staff at Camella Living for loving and caring for our dad as if he was their own and helping him make the most of his last year of life.
There will be a memorial service May 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sharon.
