Robert A. Kline, 87, died February 26, 2013 at his home in Fairlawn.
Bob was born in Akron and lived his entire life in the Akron area. After graduating from St. Vincent High School, Bob served in World War II in the Navy on the aircraft carrier, the USS Gilbert Island, in the South Pacific. When he returned home after the war, he attended The University of Akron earning a Master's degree in education.
Bob taught in the Akron Public School System for 30 years including Thornton and West Junior High Schools. He also became a self employed cement contractor. Football was a great interest for him and he played at St. Vincent and Akron U. and served as assistant coach for several high school teams.
Preceded in death by son, Jerry and two infant sons, Bob is survived by children, Robert T., Leon (Lynn), Donald (Karen), Lori (John) Maruschak, Diana (Scott) Hoffman, Ken (Becky), and Lisa Houghton; sisters, Patricia Sapp and Ann Richie; spouse, Marie; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St., with Fr. Steven Brunovsky officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park where military honors will be conducted by Copley Veterans Post and the U.S. Navy. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Visitation of Mary Catholic Church (Annunciation), 87 Broad St., Akron 44305.
