Robert R. Morrison, 73, passed away May 24, 2009.

He was a life long resident of Akron and was currently a resident of Florida. Bob graduated from Buchtel High School in 1953. He then attended the University of Akron where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1957. He was a respected member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and stayed active in both his fraternity and the University. While at the University of Akron he was an All American soccer player and assistant soccer coach for many years. He was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He completed graduate work at Ohio State University and the Harvard School of Business.

Bob was a recipient of the University of Akron Alumni Honor Award, the Dr. Frank J. Simonetti Business Alumni Award, and served on the College of Business Administration Board, along with receiving the Varsity "A" Associations Career Achievement Award. Bob retired after 38 years from the J.M. Smucker Company as Vice President of Operations and a member of the Board of Directors. While at the J.M. Smucker Company, he served on the Board of the American Peanut Manufacturers and was Chairman of the International Jelly and Preserve Association. His involvement in the community included President of the University Club of Akron, Board of Directors of the Coke-A-Cola Bottling Company and Board of Directors of the Smithers Corporation. He also served as Chairman of the Akron General Medical Center Foundation.

Bob opened his heart, his life, and showed genuine kindness to all of his friends, family, and associates. Everyone that was fortunate enough to know him was truly blessed.

He is survived by his wife, Dede; children, David, Kimberly David Joyce and Bethany Bill Downing; grandchildren, Brandon and Trevin Morrison and their mother, Linda Rooks, Michelle, Emily and Michael Joyce, and Connor, Amy and Katie Downing; brother, Charles B. Morrison of Dallas, Texas and sister, Beverly Hub of Danbury, Connecticut.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Jean Hansen officiating. Private family interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Wednesday 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert R. Morrison Scholarship Fund, c/o the University of Akron Foundation, Akron 44325; Akron General Medical Center Development Foundation, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron 44307 or Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Akron 44333.
