Born in Cowen, W. Va., he lived most of his life in Akron. He received an associate degree from The University of Akron. He attended Unity Chapel of Light in Tallmadge, was a member of the Bath Grange, and had retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.
Preceded in death by his wife, Lita in 2009, and brother, John Bance Shaver, he is survived by his son, Todd Shaver of Columbus; sister, Theora Sherwood (Harry); sisters-in-law, Merle Shaver, Cynthia Brotherton (Bob), and Karen Burkey; nieces and nephews.
Robert will be best known for his dedication, humor and giving. He was a volunteer at Summa for 13 years. He was also an active member of the Unity Chapel of Light since 1987. Most recently he helped coordinate the ushers and greeters for services, as well as participated in the Men of Unity group and the Senior Lamplighters. Special thanks to the Unity members that provided spiritual support over the last year.
He was a caring person that would always lend a hand, or an ear, to family or friends. He was married for 55 years and was the primary care giver for his wife during the last year of her life.
He was an inspiration for his son by teaching him how to listen and care for others.
