Robert Winer

Robert Winer passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022 at Akron General Medical Center at the age of 87.

Bob leaves his loving wife, Sally of 53 years, son, Robert J. Winer, daughter, Melanie Mathis, and grandsons Jason and Henry Mathis.  He is also survived by his sister, Joan Ginn, nephews, Terry (Mitzie Atkins) and Michael Ginn and favorite grand dog, Mia Mathis.

Bob graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended Kent State University.  He was the General Manager at WHLO Radio Station where he worked tirelessly to enable the station to receive their 24 hour operation license.

Bob started Akron Polymer Container Corporation in 1992 where he invented an environmentally safe pressurized container system.  The Akron Regional Development Board recognized the signing of this event with Toyo Chemical Ltd. representing the first Japan/USA business venture for each of these companies.  That same year, Bob received the Entrepreneur Of The Year Award honoring companies whose ingenuity and inventions have created growing business ventures in Akron.

He received patents for several adjustable cable identification markers and created ECOP Cable Identification Company.  The panel markers, adjustable cable markers and slip-lock markers are still being sold today.

Bob’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.  They traveled often, and going to Hilton Head, SC was an annual favorite with his children and grandchildren. He loved to cook and entertain both family and friends.  Fairlawn Country Club Golf Course was next in line for his attention where he made his first hole in one.

At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Billows Fairlawn Chapel.  A private family memorial service will be held at a later time with Chaplain Holly Spencer-Trueman officiating.  Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.
