Robert Dean Smith (Bob)
, 79, died unexpectedly October 20, 2022, at his home in Fairlawn, Ohio.
Bob was born on December 26th, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee to Molly and Alex Smith. He served with distinction in the United States Coast Guard, including providing landing craft support at the Bay of Pigs. Subsequently, he obtained a degree in sales and merchandising from the University of Akron. On August 17th, 1968, he married Carol Sims and together they raised three children who, along with Carol, were the most important part of his life.
Bob started off his career in management at Firestone Tire and Rubber and then General Manager at Cook United before becoming a successful entrepreneur as the owner and President of Signet Computers for more than 25 years.
As a follower of Christ, it was important to Bob that his children grow up in an environment that encouraged that as well. He served many years as the Booster Club President for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and was delighted to participate in numerous athletic facility additions. He also served on the advisory board of the business school at Geneva College.
An exemplary storyteller, Bob loved to entertain a crowd with his jokes and tall tales. He never met a stranger and had a gift for putting people at ease. He was always on the move and rarely idle. His favorite pastime was helping others, and if there was nothing he could do for you, he would settle for simply spending time with you. As much as he loved to talk, he was also a good listener.
Bob is survived by his wife Carol, his children David, Leigh and Chris, his grandchildren Samantha, Taylor, Alex and Peyton, 4 great grandchildren with one on the way, and his sister, Sylvia Caracio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Macklin.
