Roger Charles Mccormick

March 17, 1933 — January 20, 2021

Roger Charles McCormick, age 87, of Akron, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Anyone who knew Roger knew that he was born on St Paddy’s Day and that he grew up in a funeral home. These were two of his favorite stories to tell. He was a lifelong resident of Akron and a 1951 graduate of Buchtel High School; the yearbook states Roger “drives a hearse to school.” Roger joined the Air Force (to stay out of the Army) in 1953 serving a year in Korea before his honorable discharge in 1957. He ran his own service station for over 15 years - Market and Miller Mobil in Fairlawn, then was hired by the Summit County Engineer’s Office where he worked for another 20 years before finally retiring in 1998.  Retirement treated Roger well - he enjoyed caring for his husky Glacier, growing vegetables, the never-ending task of renovating his home, and his Thursday night “men’s club.” He particularly enjoyed his regular outings to Molly Brown’s in Cuyahoga Falls and going for long drives in his Ford truck or his 1990 Mustang. He spent his last months at the Atrium at Anna Maria in Aurora where he received loving care. Taking great pride in helping to raise five children, Roger was known to brag to anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of his kids and their spouses, his grandkids and his great grands. He will be missed by many.

Roger was born March 17, 1933 in Akron, son of the late Halsey and Alice (nee Neselroad) McCormick.

Cherished father of Kathy (Al) Cline, Tim (Deb) McCormick, Carol (Danny) Wicks, Karen McCormick, and Tari (John) Bergoine; loving grandfather of 19; loving great grandfather of 18 (almost 19); treasured brother of John McCormick and the late Gwynn Lindsey; dear uncle of many. Roger is also survived by the mother of his children, Nancy McCormick.

A private family service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roger’s name are suggested to Summit County Humane Society https://www.summithumane.org/help.
