Dr. Roger W. Strassburg, 98, died Nov. 7, 2018.
He was born Jan. 14, 1920 in Magnolia, Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota. Roger served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and after returning home, worked at B.F. Goodrich in research and management. He retired from the company. His second career was as an adjunct professor of chemistry at the University of Akron from which he also retired. He lived in the Akron area for the past 60 years and was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Preceded in death by brother, Robert Strassburg; he is survived by his wife, Mary Ann A. Strassburg; son, Roger (Joyce) Strassburg of Scottsdale, AZ; granddaughter, Dawn (Philip) Hudson; great grandchildren, Chase and Britny Hudson all of Kansas City, MO; nephew, Randy (Kay) Strassburg of Wichita, KS; step daughter, Barbara B. (Fred M.) Rankin of Fredericksburg, VA; step grandchildren, Genevieve Rankin of Charlottesville, VA, Allison (John) Cabaniss of Washington DC and Philip (Alexis) Rankin, United States Navy; step great grandchildren, Owen, Grace and Sydney Cabaniss of Washington DC.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. on WEDNESDAY, November 21 at the Chapel at Ohio Living Rockynol, 1150 W Market St in Akron, with Rev. Jon Hauerwas, Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service. Interment Mount Peace cemetery. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
