Roland H. Swartzlander, 87, died February 22, 2010.
Born in Akron, he was a lifetime area resident. Rollie was a licensed Certified Public Accountant and president of Swartzlander Audit Company. He was a member and past president, North Akron Board of Trade; member and past president, North Akron Chamber of Commerce; member and past president, Certified Public Accountants of Akron and Canton; State of Ohio Society of CPA; 3½ years, U.S. Navy Air Corps, served as an aviation radio operator and gunner; 11 years in U.S. Air Force reserves. Rollie received a B.S., Accounting, from The Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau. He was a charter member and past president of North Akron Kiwanis, Jaycees, served as deacon and assistant treasurer of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the No-Name Club.
Preceded in death by parents, Roy and Lena and twin-brother, Robert, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; children, Judy David Benish of Waunakee, Wis., James Karol Swartzlander of Sacramento, Calif., and Susan Simonson of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Barth Zarrilli, Samara Calderon, Pat Benish, Kathryn and Aaron Swartzlander; great-grandchildren, Ries and Riley Calderon, Tyler and Eric Zarrilli; sisters, Frances Rumbaugh and Maxine Piatt; sisters-in-law, Hazel Fouse, Mildred Ewart, and Wilma Cheslock; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by longtime friend, Al Kodish.
Services will be held 1 p.m. FRIDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Derek Starr-Redwine officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
