Ronald D. Best

Ronald D. Best, 99, of Akron, Ohio passed away on December 26, 2024. 

Ronald was born in Putnam County, Ohio on August 17, 1925 to the late Dewey and Edith May Best. 

Ron met his future wife, Veiva, in high school. Their courtship was extended as he joined the Navy during World War II. He returned after the war to obtain an electrical engineering degree at Ohio State University and marry his high school sweetheart. He moved to Akron, Ohio and started as an engineer at Ohio Edison, ultimately rising to Vice President prior to his retirement. 

Ron and Veiva had two children, Barbara and David, and became an integral part of Goodyear Heights, United Presbyterian Church, the Akron Jaycees and many other philanthropic organizations. He was blessed with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ron and Veiva spent their post retirement years in Florida before moving back to Akron. After his wife's passing in 2019, Ron moved into Concordia/ Sumner in Copley, Ohio. He developed many close personal relationships there, and continued enjoying life sharing his days with friends and family. He passed peacefully on December 26th, 2024 after a short illness at 99 years of age.

He will be remembered and cherished for his integrity, decency and wit, and the example he set for all those that knew him. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 18, 2025 at Bath UCC 3980 W. Bath Rd. Akron, Ohio 44333 with Rev. Dr. Cindy Parker officiating. Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park following the service. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Bath UCC in Ron’s memory.
