Rosa (Rohn) Sensenstein

August 13, 1925 — October 19, 2024

ROSA (ROHN) SENSENSTEIN passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, at the age of 99. Rosa was born August 13, 1925 in the small village of Gyorkony, Hungary to Adam and Rosalia Rohn. Her young life was spent in school, at play, and working in the vineyards of her family’s property.

In 1944, during World War II, the Russians came to her village and took a number of the townspeople, including Rosa, on a “two-week” trip to work for them. In actuality it was a two-week train trip in the cold of winter to the Ukraine, where they were forced to work hard labor in the coal mines. Many people did not survive as they were not prepared for the harsh work and weather conditions. Three years later, when Rosa was emaciated and not strong enough for the work, she was released.

Through a network of people she found her way to Germany, and reunited with her family who had been thrown out of Hungary during the war. She worked there for several years before her family decided to immigrate to the United States. Shortly after coming to the U.S. she married and raised a family, spending the majority of her life in Cuyahoga Falls.

Rosa was an exceptional cook and baker and shared her love of food throughout her life with her family, friends, and neighbors. She was a member of The German Family Society in Brimfield and volunteered many hours and many years in the kitchen of the GFS. Rosa was also a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in downtown Akron, and then Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Most of all, Rosa was a beloved mother and grandmother, and her love and guidance will be dearly missed.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Adam, her sister Suzi & husband Mike Leidal, her husband John Sensenstein and her step sons Siegfried and Hansi Sensenstein. She is survived by her daughter Betty (Les) Wise, niece MaryAnn Leidal, and 5 grandchildren. She loved the Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ and looked forward to going to her heavenly home.

Funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 2141 5th St., Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 11:00 AM. Visiting time will be from 10:30 -11:00 AM at the church. Private entombment will take place.
