Rose Mary Piscazzi Picciotti
Rose Mary Piscazzi Picciotti was born on November 3, 1918 and died on January 12, 2009.
A life long resident of the Akron area, Rose Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Pasquale Pat and parents, Benedetto and Antoinette Piscazzi. Employed by the Akron Board of Education for 35 years, Rose Mary retired in 1971, achieving the status of Teacher Emeritus. During her tenure in education, she was a guidance counselor, teacher and secretary at East, North, Jennings and Robinson schools. She also taught for many years at Akron Night School, and helped many returning World War II veterans earn their high school diplomas. She was an inspirational educator and loved working with young people and adults. Rose Mary was a graduate of North High School Class of '37 and the University of Akron, where she earned a Bachelor and Master's Degree. She loved learning and was an avid reader. During World War II, she worked for two years at Goodyear Aircraft as a secretary in the personnel and engineering department, while they were producing the Vought-Corsair airplane.
Pasquale and Rose Mary traveled extensively to South America, Europe and around the U.S. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, specializing in Latin dances. Gardening was also of great interest to both of them, and one year they won an award for the most beautiful yard in Fairlawn. Rose Mary's memberships included: Holder of A-Key from Akron University, Delta Kappa Gamma Charter Member Beta X Chapter International Teacher's Honorary Sorority, College Club of Akron, Summit County Retired Teachers' Association, Fairlawn City Garden Club, and Kappa Delta Pi Business Teachers' Honorary. Rose Mary is survived by brothers, Rocco B. Veronica and Vincent Laura, deceased Piscazzi; sisters, Lillian P. William, deceased Ferguson and Clara Jean Piscazzi; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday.
