Rosemary Pine Spindler, 89, passed away February 11, 2017 at Ohio Living Rockynol in Akron.
Rosemary was born in Dayton, Ohio to Robert L. Pine and Eleanor Pine (Folsom) on September 7, 1927. She spent her early years living in Dayton and later became a longtime resident of Akron. Rosemary graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in Economics. While in college, Rosemary met and fell in love with James S. Spindler and they married on May 20, 1950.
Rosemary will be remembered as an intelligent, well informed, and giving person. She was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder. She served in the Presbytery and hired its first Hunger Enabler. She assisted two immigrant families sponsored by the church. Rosemary also contributed her time and effort and her devotion to a wide variety of local community organizations. She served on the United Way Board of Trustees and was the fund-raising chairwoman for the Akron Foodbanc. She also volunteered at Good Neighbors to provide help to those in need. She served as President of the Akron League of Women Voters and President of the University of Akron Women's Committee.
Rosemary loved to spend time with her family and friends. She also loved to travel and play bridge at the Akron Woman's City Club.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her sister, Patricia Pine, and her brother, Bob (and Lucy) Pine; she is survived by her brother, John David (and Mary) Pine; son, Doug (Jolie) Spindler; daughters, Sue (Bruce) Howorth and Ellen Spindler; and Grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew, Elisabeth, Margot, and Troy.
Services will be held SATURDAY, February 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W Exchange St, Akron, OH 44313, with Rev. Jonathan Hauerwas officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A reception for family and friends will be held after the service followed by entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
