Rosetta Evelyn Sholar Blanton was received by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into His presence on Saturday, November 20, 2021 after prolonged illness. She was born on February 10, 1925 in the family’s home on a small farm outside the town of Cadiz, in Trigg County, Kentucky. Her parents, Robert Euel and Emma Goebel Cox Sholar had seven children: Lawrence, Clarence, Gwen, Evelyn, Jean, Donald, and Ronald. She is survived by Jean and Ronald. She attended a one-room school called Oakland. After the family moved to Hopkinsville, she attended and graduated from Hopkinsville High School. After graduation, she moved to Akron, Ohio where she worked at the Naval Station there. She met her husband, Watson Blanton at Calvary Baptist Church in Akron where they both worshiped and attended the young adult group faithfully. They were married shortly after. Watson was in the Navy and served our nation faithfully and courageously in the Pacific and Mediterranean during World War II. Later he worked and retired at the Akron Beacon Journal. Evelyn worked and retired from the Department of Defense; Defense Logistics Agency in Cleveland having served many years as an Account Auditor.
Watson went to be with the Lord 12 years ago after 53 years of marriage. Rosetta remained close to her brothers and sisters throughout her life, and although she and Watson had no children of their own, she loved their many nieces and nephews, and their children as if they were her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aunt Evelyn holds a very special and warm place in their hearts and will be missed greatly.
Rosetta and her family are so grateful to their cousins, Lonnie and Sharon Thomas and their children and grandchildren for their loving care and companionship these many years they have lived in Akron together. She considered Lonnie and Sharon as her siblings too and their children and grandchildren hers as well.
Rosetta was a faithful member of The Chapel in Akron and appreciated her personal visits from Pastor Isaac Van Epps and her close friends, Cheryl and Jerry Buxton, and the members of her Sunday School class. Rosetta’s family would like to thank them for their prayers, support, and love down through the years.
Most of all and on Rosetta’s behalf, our family would like to give thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Who gives us hope and comfort today that Evelyn’s death is precious in His sight, that her suffering and loneliness in this life are over, and that she and Watson are living with Christ in the eternal home He’s prepared for them by His grace and their faith in Him.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the Memorial Chapel at The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH 44304, with Pastor Isaac Van Epps officiating.
