Roy V. Velie, 89, died July 23, 2009.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was an Ohio resident since 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War, and retired from The Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dane and Isabella of Powder Springs, Ga.; daughter, Simone of El Cerrito, Calif.; and son and daughter-in-law, Harmon and Laraine, of Akron; grandchildren, Luke, Jordan, Andrea Dan, Allison Bob; and great-grandson, Aidan.
Memorial service will be held at Guardian Angles Church, in Copley, August 8, 2009 at 1 p.m. There will be no local calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Inc.
