Ruth Heyburn Bond, age 93, passed away May 15, 2011.
She was born in Akron, attended old Central High School and received a BA from the University of Akron where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was May Queen. She earned her MA from Ohio State University, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Educational Honorary Sorority. Ruth married William R. Bond, and they lived in Akron and Hudson during their 64 years of marriage. She taught at Bath High School, and after raising their four children taught at Revere High School for 23 years, serving as head of the Social Studies Department.
Ruth served on the Summit County Mental Health Board, the Advisory Board of Kate Waller Barrett Home for Girls, the Women's Board of Children's Services, and the Elva Chapter of Eastern Star, and was on the Women's Board and a guide at Stan Hywet. She was a member of the Women's City Club. A longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she was an Elder, Clerk of Session, President of Women's Association and a Stephen Minister. Ruth and Bill were active in the Rockynol apartments community.
Predeceased by Bill; she leaves three daughters, Gail James of Vermilion, Ohio, and Fort Myers, Fla., Alice Bond of Brooksville, Fla., and Marybeth Sheppard Gary of Tiburon, Calif. She enjoyed her four grandchildren, Emily JD Dueck of W. Africa, Jeremy Krauss Christine of Vermilion, Ohio, and Julieclaire and Annalyse Sheppard of Tiburon, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 4th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Derek Starr Redwine officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron, OH 44313.
