Ruth Lenehan

Ruth Lenehan, longtime resident of Akron, passed away this Monday, August 1, 2016, at the senior care facility Wedgewood Estates in Mansfield, Ohio. She was 98 years old.


Ruth the oldest of 3 children was born on June 3, 1918 to William and Patricia Miller in Caldwell, Ohio. She had a happy childhood growing up in Hazelton, PA building a strong Christian faith from her father who was a Baptist minister. Ruth was a deeply caring person that led to a career in Nursing and advanced training in obstetrics in Jersey City, NJ where she met her husband.


In 1941 Ruth married Joseph W. Lenehan and together they raised 4 sons. Family was the center of Ruth's life. She loved to spend time with her family traveling, camping and especially preparing Thanksgiving dinners for the extended family. Ruth had a deep and abiding faith. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Akron for 50 years and she would lovingly share her faith with those who were searching.


After her children were grown she began a new career in childcare for 30 years involved with numerous lovely families in the Akron Fairlawn area. She touched numerous young lives with her kind support.


Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Lenehan, her brother Clarence Miller and sister Esther Smith. She is survived by her sons, J. William Lenehan of Portage, MI; James T. Lenehan of Rydal, PA; Daniel J. Lenehan of Akron; Stephen P. Lenehan of Mansfield; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.



Friends may call FRIDAY, August 5, from 3-6 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Services will be held SATURDAY, August 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
