Ruth E. Sheldon, 95, died peacefully on June 21, 2011.

Preceded in death by infant girl; husband, Howard; mother, father, sister and two brothers of Cleveland, Ohio; Ruth leaves daughter, Melissa Sheldon Paul; son, Scott Sheldon; grandsons, Jason Sheldon Jennifer and Ryan Paul; great grandson, Max Sheldon; friends, Sabra and Stephanie Sheldon; and her beloved and incorrigible cat, Sammy.

Ruth was a graduate of Cleveland State University, where she was a member of Lambda Sigma Chi Sorority, Wing & Torch Honorary Society and National Honor Society. After earning her teaching certificate from Kent State University, Ruth taught in the primary grades at the Woodridge School System for 23 years.

She was active in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts acting as a den mother for several years. She lent her creative talents to many organizations in addition to continuing her love of painting and the other visual arts. Ruth was also a plane spotter for Civil Defense in the 50s. Ruth supported several humane and ecological organizations and was an avid gardener and member of the Richfield Garden Club and Garden Club of Ohio. She was a member of Richfield Friends of the Library, Richfield Historical Society, Bath Goodtime Club and a charter member of The Hilltoppers in Richfield.

According to her wishes, calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. WEDNESDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Private burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Richfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087 or to the Richfield Emergency Squad, 4410 W.
