Ruth A Smith

Ruth A. Smith, 92, passed peacefully into the hands of God on November 13, 2012 in Bonita Springs, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Smith with whom she shared over 49 years of marriage.
Ruth was born in Bradford, PA and lived in the Akron area most of her life. She attended Kent State University and was employed as an executive secretary by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. prior to marrying her husband. In her later years, she resided in Bonita Springs, Florida. Ruth was an accomplished pianist and organist, and passed her love of music on to her sons. She was a long time member of the Akron Tuesday Musical Club, Akron Symphony Women's Guild, and Bath Garden Club. She and her husband enjoyed traveling extensively. She was also an avid Bridge player and gardener.
Ruth was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Akron. She was also an associate member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida where she was active in the Teddy Bear Ministry, making Teddy Bears for underprivileged and sick children. She was a member of Highland Woods Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs.
Ruth is also survived by her sons, Gary E. (Cynthia) of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Gregory W. (Kimberly) of Long Grove, IL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tiffany), Alyssa, Evan, Kyle (Stephanie), Logan, Evan and Connor; great-grandson, Jacob.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at 11:00 am at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Akron, Ohio 44333, with Pastor Amy Starr Redwine officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6pm to 8pm Monday. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
