Sally Bowman, 97, passed away January 22, 2022. Born and raised in Cuyahoga Falls, she lived most of her life in Akron. Sally was a past volunteer and member of the Akron City Hospital Women’s Board and the Sumner Home on Merriman. After her husband’s death in 1972, she became a managing partner in the family business, The Burch Directory Co. She was also a long-time member of Fairlawn-West UCC.
“In the world according to Sally” some of her favorite things included her friends and family (especially her grandchildren), her beloved pets (and strays), bus trips with the girls, neighborhood walks and hikes in the parks, a good book, Sparrow Lake in Canada, and a Sam Adams Boston Lager.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Sylvan P. Shafer, husband Charles “Chic” W. Bowman, sister Jane E. Woodward and in-laws Byron W. and Helen Bowman. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Becky (John) Gossett, grandchildren Megan (Cory) Hatfield, Scott Gossett, and Wendi (Rod) Schumacher, and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to One of a Kind Pet Rescue, Fairlawn-West UCC, or the charity of your choice.
