Sargent Major Peter C. Pope USAF , age 89, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024. Peter retired from the US Air Force after 28 years of service in January of 1988. He served mostly during the Vietnam Conflict and at major Air Force bases all over the world. After he retired, he lived in Waynesboro, PA, about 10 miles from Washington DC, which was his last duty station.
Pete was a real expert on the Civil War and Gettysburg was only a few miles away from his home in Waynesboro. Peter was very talented and played the drums in a quartet while he was in the Air Force. He knew all the popular songs from the 1950’s and 60’s!
He is survived by his sister Wendy (Donald) Pope MacKay and nieces and nephews Marnie (Brett) Fuller, Robert (Lisa H.) MacKay, Douglas (Lisa N.) MacKay and Andrew (Maria) MacKay.
We would like to thank all the wonderful people at Heritage Crossing Assisted Living who cared so well for him.
He will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with Air Force Military Honors
Services in care of The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory, Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N Miller Road, Akron, OH 44333.
