Shannon E. Wilkes

June 30, 1989 — September 17, 2013

Shannon Elizabeth Wilkes

Batha"Shannon Wilkes, 24, died peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2013.

Born in Akron, Shannon was a lifetime area resident and a graduate of Revere High School and Malone University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Malone where she received the Senior Recognition Award in social work, and later became a licensed social worker. Shannon was an avid soccer player throughout her life, culminating in an undefeated national championship at Wheaton College. Her hard work and competitive spirit was constantly displayed; whether on the field, in the classroom, or at the kitchen table playing board games. Shannon epitomized humility and selflessness, not for the idea of making herself less but making others more. Her love for others was surpassed only by the love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Shannon showed great courage and perseverance throughout her five-year battle with cancer, never allowing it to keep her from her goal of serving the Lord.

The family would like to thank all the special people who cared for and supported our family during this lengthy trial. Dr. Peter Anderson, Dr. Erin Cockrell, and Dr. Steven Kuerbitz, as well as the nursing and Palliative Care staff at Akron Children's Hospital and MD Anderson who demonstrated invaluable knowledge, diligence, and compassion as they treated Shannon. We are also eternally grateful for the body of Christ who was visibly present while serving us in countless ways.

Shannon is survived by her parents, Scott and Gail Wilkes; brother, Brian; grandparents, Bob and Marlene Mottice, Gretchen Mottice, Jim and Margaret Wilkes, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
